Carol Benson, 78, Princeton, died Monday, October 26th at the Elim Home in Princeton, MN.
Carol I. Esler was born on August 31, 1931 in Greenbush Township, Mille Lacs County, MN, daughter of Scott and Frany (Rice) Esler. She grew up and was educated at Princeton, graduating from Princeton High School in 1949. She worked at Shirkey’s Café in Princeton for a short time, before beginning work at the Arsenal in New Brighton, MN. She was united in marriage with Roland Benson in January of 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Princeton. Roland was in the service and they were stationed at Fort Gordon, Augusta, Georgia, and then moved to Morgan, Minnesota, before returning to Princeton. They lived west of town on Highway 95 for a time and then moved into Princeton in 1959. Carol worked at Fingerhut for about a year and then later worked as a teacher’s aide at South Elementary, where she worked for twenty years, retiring in May of 1996. Carol underwent several surgeries before being diagnosed with Parkinson’s. She has been at the Elim Home in Princeton for the past four years.
In her younger days, Carol enjoyed gardening and had a large flower garden. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, garage saling and dancing.
Carol is survived by her two daughters and a son: Ranee (Dennis) Milliman of Coon Rapids, MN, Lorie (Dan Herbst) Benson of Princeton, MN and Scott (Cindy) Benson of Oak Park, MN; five grandchildren: Erik, Brandy, Zach, Michael & Sarah; three great grandchildren: Matthew, Emily and Morgan; two brothers and one sister: Jack Esler of Blaine, MN, Duane Esler of Princeton, MN and Shelby Wood of Midlothian, IL.
Visitation: One hour before services on Friday at the church.
Funeral: 11:00 AM Friday, October 30th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton.
Burial: Oak Knoll Cemetery, Princeton, MN.
