Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Annunciation Catholic Church, Mayhew Lake for John A. Scapanski, age 50, who died peacefully Sunday at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Rev. Timothy Wenzel will officiate and burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Popple Creek. Friends and relatives may call from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.
John was born March 4, 1960 in St. Cloud to Art & Rita (Freihammer) Scapanski. He married Cheryl Mendel on Aug. 18, 1984 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Mayhew Lake. John was a dairy farmer and lived his entire life in the Sauk Rapids area. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, was a 4-H leader, served on various 4-H committees, and served on the Mid-MN Holstein Board of Directors. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and also enjoyed working with his cows and deer hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl of Sauk Rapids; daughters and son, Heidi (Joel Anderson), Cassie, and Adam all of Sauk Rapids; mother, Rita Scapanski of Sauk Rapids; brothers and sisters, Dave (Kathy), Gary (Shirley), Steve (Karla), and Tim all of Sauk Rapids, Carolyn (Cary) Pietrzak, Monica (Dave) Lentner, and Barb (Dwain) Nelson all of Rice, Tom and Jane (Steve) Janson all of Foley, and Rose (Kevin) Virnig of Pierz.
John was preceded in death by his father, Art Scapanski; and father-in-law, Donald Mendel.
